GlenLakes Golf Club in Foley, AL
73RD ALABAMA BOYS STATE JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP BEGINS TUESDAY AT GLENLAKES GOLF CLUB
HOOVER, AL – The Alabama Golf Association will host the 73rd Boys’ State Junior Championship held at GlenLakes Golf Club in Foley from July 24-26. The par 72 Vista-Dunes course welcomes 125 players from across the state on Tuesday.
GlenLakes Golf Club’s Vista-Dunes course was originally designed by renowned players and architects Bruce Delvin and Robert Van Hagge. This 6,938-yard par 72 course will be a championship test that will evoke the feeling of Scottish links golf – strategic mounding, extensive bunkering and undulating fairways and greens. This year marks the 73rd playing of the Alabama Boys’ State Junior Championship and the first time that GlenLakes Golf Club has hosted the Boys’ State Junior Championship.
The Alabama Boys’ State Junior Championship is contested over 54 holes of gross individual stroke play for players age 12-18. Players 8-11 will play a total of 27 holes (9 each day). Players in the 14-15 and 16-18 Age Divisions will play the same tees and will be eligible to win the overall Championship. The field (14-18) will be cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes. There will be no cut for the 8-11 or 12-13 Age Divisions. The lowest score for 54 holes in either 14-15 or 16-18 Age Divisions will be the Champion. In the event of a tie for the overall Championship only, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The play-off holes and their order of play will be determined by the Committee. Initial groupings will be for two days; the field will be cut and re-paired by score after the second round.
Last year’s event was won by Padraic Sim of Spanish Fort at Goose Pond Colony Resort (Lakes Course). Sim fired a final round eight-under 64 to win the 72nd Alabama Boys’ State Junior Championship title by two strokes over J.P. Cave of Mobile. Sim, a University of Washington commit, birdied the final two holes to finish the championship at 202 (-14).
