Alabama Golf Association Set to Take the 100 Hole Hike Challenge for Youth On Course

RTJ Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley (The Backyard): Host of the 2024 100 Hole Hike
Hoover, AL (Sept. 3, 2024) – On Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, at RTJ Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley (The Backyard), the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) staff will be participating in its fourth “100 Hole Hike” to raise funds and awareness for Youth on Course Alabama. Every dollar donated goes directly toward supporting the Alabama Golf Foundation. A donation of just $20 ensures that 5 youth golfers will get the chance to play a round of golf in 2024 and beyond.

The Alabama Golf Association’s goal is to raise $55,000 this year. In 2023, the AGA Staff, alongside YOC Alabama board members, exceeded fundraising goals to raise over $40,000.

The Alabama Golf Association and Youth on Course (YOC) have partnered to open the door for over 1,200 junior golfers in Alabama this year, ages 6-18, to play rounds of golf for $5 or less at participating facilities. The core purpose of Youth on Course is to provide life changing opportunities through golf. Since 2006, YOC has grown to support over 500,000 members and has awarded more than $8.2 million in college scholarships. Members can play at over 3,000 different golf courses worldwide for $5 or less, illustrating our commitment to offer golf access at an affordable rate. For participating facilities in Alabama, we recognize that the $5 fee may not adequately cover the expense of the round so each course is subsidized at a negotiated rate for the remainder of the green fee.

“As a former high school golf coach and past 100-Hole Hike participant, I have seen first-hand that the money raised for Youth On Course has a big impact on young aspiring players the ability to access golf – courses and golf-related programming,” said Karl Yergey, Manager of Junior Golf and Tournaments at the Alabama Golf Association. “Doing what we can by sponsoring someone playing 100-holes or personally tackling the challenge of 100-holes opens their opportunities to playing, college, and internship opportunities and grows the game we love for the future!”
