Stroke Play Qualifying Results at the 23rd Alabama State Match Play and 4th Alabama State Senior Match Play Championships

ANNISTON, AL (August 9, 2024) – Stroke play qualifying results of the Alabama Golf Association’s 23rd State Match Play and 4th State Senior Match Play Championships hosted by Anniston Country Club in Anniston, Alabama, from August 8-11.

Ward Harris of Vestavia Hills earned medalist honors at the 23rd Alabama State Match Play Championship. Harris fired an impressive 10-under 130 for the 36-hole stroke play qualifier to lead the Championship into match play format. 

Jackson Mitchell of Athens finished second, posting a nine-under 131 for the stroke play qualifying rounds. John Bruce of Gunterville finished third, posting eight-under 132.

The cut to the low 16 players fell at two-over 142 within the Alabama State Match Play Championship. 


Defending champion, Shaw Pritchett of Montgomery earned medalist honors at the 4th Alabama State Senior Match Play Championship with an overall score of even-par 140 for the stroke play qualifying rounds to stand first seed for match play.

Kevin Daugherty of Anniston finished second, carding an overall score of two-over 142 for the stroke play qualifying rounds. 

Chris Hummel of Birmingham and Tom Davis of Hoover finished T3, each posting overall scores of four-over 144 for the stroke play qualifying rounds.

The cut to the low 16 players fell at 14-over 154 within the Alabama State Senior Match Play Championship.

Match Play (Round of 16) for the 23rd Alabama State Match Play and 4th Alabama State Senior Match Play Championships will begin on Saturday, August 10, at 7:30 a.m. off #1 tee with the Quarterfinals matches set to begin at the completion of the Round of 16.

In 2016, the AGA earned the Gold Tee Award for “Outstanding Tournament Operations – Small Association” by the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA).

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the historic Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the SGA Board of Directors. AGA staff also administers day-to-day operations of the Elite Amateur Golf Series.
