AUBURN, AL (July 11, 2024) – Final results of the 1st Alabama Women's State Match Play Championship and the 6th Alabama Women's State Senior Match Play Championship at Auburn University Club in Auburn, AL on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

1st Alabama Women’s State Match Play Championship Results

The Alabama Women’s State Match Play Championship began at 7:30 a.m. with Semifinal matches. Evelyn Tankersley of Montgomery defeated Grace Engel of Huntsville 1 up. Anne Fernandez of Auburn won against Anna Christian Beeker of Tuscaloosa 23 holes. 

In the final match, Anne Fernandez of Auburn claimed the 1st Alabama Women’s State Match Play title, winning 2 & 1 against Evelyn Tankersley of Montgomery. 

“This feels really good,” said Fernandez. “I’m really excited to be the champion and it’s special to win this here at Auburn University Club.”

In the Women’s State Match Play Championship Consolation Bracket, Frances Brown of Mobile defeated Katelyn Foster of Mobile 4 & 3. 


6th Alabama Women’s State Senior Match Play Championship Results

Theresa Mahlik of Madison went back-to-back claiming the 6th Alabama Women’s State Senior Match Play Championship title. She won 1 up against Susan West of Tuscaloosa. 

In the Women’s State Senior Match Play Tournament Division, Karen Moore of Auburn defeated Elizabeth Underwood of Auburn 2 & 1. 

In the Women’s State Senior Match Play Consolation Bracket, Gabi Rohman of Gulf Shores won 2 & 1 against Theresa Stratton of Opelika.

Additionally, the Alabama Golf Foundation supports the Youth on Course Alabama program providing facility access to junior golfers and provides funding for the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation. In 2016, the AGA earned the Gold Tee Award for “Outstanding Tournament Operations – Small Association” by the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA).

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the historic Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the SGA Board of Directors. AGA staff also administers day-to-day operations of the Elite Amateur Golf Series.
