Chris Spivey of Pell City defends the Alabama Women’s State Super-Senior Championship title with an overall score of six-over par 150. Spivey shot two birdies during today’s round.
“I was three strokes over what I wanted, but I finished,” said Spivey. “That’s the most important thing. And it was fun playing with all of the people and the golf course was just plain gorgeous.”
This marks Spivey’s 10th State Amateur Championship title.
Candy Mitchell of Springville carded an overall score of 26-over par 170 to take second after a scorecard playoff. Ann Lanier of Fairhope took home third.
At the Women’s State Amateur, Gabriella Nicastro of Huntsville maintained her lead with a 36-hole score of three-under par 141. She fired four birdies today and holds a three-shot lead over the competition.
Lauren Thompson of Midland City sits in second with a score of even-par 144 after two rounds.
Julie Waldo of Prattville sits in third, carding a second round score of one-under par 71 and an overall score of two-over par 146.
Theresa Mahlik of Madison shot a round two score of nine-over par 81 to remain at the top of the State Senior Championship Division leaderboard. She is currently 15-over par 159 overall.
Cym Doggett of Huntsville sits in second with an overall score of 23-over 167 and Dina Murray of Chelsea stands third with an overall score of 30-over 174.
Lori Holibuagh of Foley and Debbie Atchley of Pelham stand tied at the top of the State Senior Tournament Division, each posting overall scores of 28-over par 172.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of 120 member clubs represented by over 28,000 individuals. In addition to competitions, the AGA administers the AGA Scholarship Fund through the Alabama Golf Foundation that is dedicated to assisting young golfers in higher education. Additionally, the Alabama Golf Foundation supports the Youth on Course Alabama program providing facility access to junior golfers and provides funding for the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation. In 2016, the AGA earned the Gold Tee Award for “Outstanding Tournament Operations – Small Association” by the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA).
Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the historic Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the SGA Board of Directors. AGA staff also administers day-to-day operations of the Elite Amateur Golf Series.
