ANNISTON, AL (June 17, 2024) –  The Alabama Golf Association’s 92nd Alabama Women’s State Amateur, 51st Women’s State Senior Amateur and 6th Alabama Women’s State Super-Senior Amateur Championships will be held at Anniston Country Club in Anniston, AL, June 18-20, 2024. Forty-three players will compete for the Women’s State Amateur Championship title and 28 players will compete for the Women’s State Senior & Super-Senior Amateur Championships.

Championship Links:  
This marks the eighth time that the Anniston Country Club has hosted the Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship (1930, 1931, 1936, 1948, 1958, 1981, 1993). The Championship was first played in 1929 at the Country Club of Birmingham with Mrs. Henry S. Geismer defeating Mrs. Carl Hess 5 and 3 to win the inaugural event. Taylor Trible of Birmingham claimed her second Women’s State Amateur title in 2023 at Musgrove Country Club in Jasper, AL. *Note in 2024, the championship format has been changed to 54-holes of stroke play only.

This marks the first time Anniston Country Club has hosted the Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur and the Alabama Women’s State Super-Senior Amateur Championships. 

The inaugural Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship was first played in 1973 with Ceil Watkins winning the inaugural event at Montgomery Country Club. Mary Isbell holds the record with 8 victories (1995-1999, 2001-2003). Linda Jeffery of Prattville won the State Senior title in 2023 at Limestone Springs Golf Club claiming her first AGA Senior Amateur Championship title.

Chris Spivey from Pell City won her first Super-Senior Amateur title for the Women’s Super-Senior Championship at Limestone Springs Golf Club in Oneonta, AL in 2023.

Championship Yardage/Course & Slope Rating:  6001 yards/74.9/129
Format: This Championship is conducted at 54 holes of gross individual stroke play. There will be one division as described in the entry form with the Champion being the player who posts the lowest 54-hole score in the Championship Division. In the event of a tie for the Championship, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The playoff holes and order of play will be determined by the AGA. Any other ties in all other flights, will be resolved by matching scorecards according to the USGA recommendation within the Committee Procedures of the Rules of Golf – “Matching Scorecards”. Initial groupings are for round one; field will be re-paired by score after each round.
Eligibility:  Alabama Women’s State Amateur entries are open to any female amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.

Format:  This Championship is conducted at 54 holes of gross individual stroke play. No cut. There will be two divisions as described in the entry form with the Champion being the player who posts the lowest 54-hole score in the Championship Division. Tournament Division will be flighted after 36 holes by score (if necessary). In the event of a tie for the overall Championship, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The play-off holes and order of play will be determined by the AGA. Any other ties for prizes in all other flights, will be resolved by matching scorecards according to the USGA recommendation shown in the Committee Procedures section within the Rules of Golf – “Matching Scorecards”. Initial groupings will be for round one; field will be re-paired by score after round one.
Eligibility:  Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur entries are open to any female amateur golfer who is a member of the AGA, has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club, owns a residence in the state of Alabama where they physically live for at least 5 of the previous 12 months prior to the tournament start date and qualifies under the following age requirements: 
  • Championship Division - Must have reached her 50th birthday by June 18, 2024. 
  • Tournament Division - Must have reached her 50th birthday by June 18, 2024.

6th Alabama Women’s State Super-Senior Amateur Championship

Championship Yardage/Course & Slope Rating:  4969 yards/69.5/118
Format:  This championship will be conducted on a stroke play basis for 36 holes, 18 holes daily on June 18-19, 2024. There will be one division as described in the entry form with the Champion being the player who posts the lowest 36-hole score. Championship division will be flighted after 18 holes (if necessary). Initial groupings will be for round one; field will be re-paired by score after the first round. In the event of a tie for the overall Super-Senior Championship, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The play-off holes and order of play will be determined by the AGA. Any other ties for prizes in all other flights, will be resolved by matching scorecards according to the USGA recommendation shown in the Committee Procedures section within the Rules of Golf – “Matching Scorecards”. 
Eligibility: Alabama Women’s State Super-Senior Amateur entries are open to any female amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama, has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club and qualifies under the following age requirements: 
  • Super Senior 65+ Division - Must have reached her 65th birthday by June 18, 2024.

The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of 120 member clubs represented by over 28,000 individuals. Additionally, the Alabama Golf Foundation supports the Youth on Course Alabama program providing facility access to junior golfers and provides funding for the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation. In 2016, the AGA earned the Gold Tee Award for “Outstanding Tournament Operations – Small Association” by the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA).

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the historic Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the SGA Board of Directors. AGA staff also administers day-to-day operations of the Elite Amateur Golf Series.
