GlenLakes Golf Club to Host 61st Alabama Girls State Junior Amateur and Inaugural Alabama Women’s Mid-Amateur Championships

FOLEY, AL (June 2, 2024) – The Alabama Golf Association’s 61st Alabama Girls State Junior Amateur and 1st Alabama Women’s Mid-Amateur Championships will be held at GlenLakes Golf Club (Dunes/Vista) in Foley, AL, June 3-5, 2024. Forty-four golfers will compete for the Girls State Junior Amateur Championship title and nine will compete for the Women’s State Mid-Amateur Championship title.

This marks the first time GlenLakes Golf Club (Dunes/Vista) has hosted the Alabama Girls State Junior Amateur Championship. Scarlett Schremmer of Birmingham won the title in 2023 at Goose Pond Resort (Lake Course). The Championship was first played in 1963 with Judy Jehle winning the inaugural event. Michaela Morard holds the record with five victories (2015, 2017-2020). 

This year marks the first ever playing of the Alabama Women’s State Mid-Amateur Championship hosted by GlenLakes Golf Club (Dunes/Vista). 

Alabama Girls State Junior entries are open to any female amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama, has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 17.9. Players must have reached their 12th birthday, but not 19th birthday, on or before June 3, 2024.

State Women’s Mid-Amateur entries are open to female amateur golfers that are above 22 years of age by June 3, 2024, who is a legal resident of Alabama, and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 33.9.

Girls State Junior Amateur and Women’s State Mid-Amateur Championships Facts: 

Yardage: 5791 yards, par 36-36–72 (Girls State Junior Amateur); 5719 yards, par 36-36-72 (Women’s State Mid-Amateur)

Course & Slope Rating: 74.7/126 (Girls State Junior Amateur); 73.1/123 (Women’s State Mid-Amateur)

Championship Format: 

  • 54 holes of individual stroke play.

  • The lowest score for 54 holes will be the Champion. 

  • In the event of a tie for the Championship, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The play-off holes and order of play will be determined by the AGA.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)

The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of 120 member clubs represented by over 28,000 individuals. Additionally, the Alabama Golf Foundation supports the Youth on Course Alabama program providing facility access to junior golfers and provides funding for the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation. In 2016, the AGA earned the Gold Tee Award for “Outstanding Tournament Operations – Small Association” by the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA).

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the historic Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the SGA Board of Directors. AGA staff also administers day-to-day operations of the Elite Amateur Golf Series.
