Limestone Springs Golf Club to Host 27th Alabama State Senior Amateur Championship & 6th Alabama State Super-Senior Amateur Championship

Limestone Springs Golf Club, Oneonta: Site of the 27th State Senior & 6th State Super-Senior Championships
ONEONTA, AL (May 16, 2024) – The Alabama Golf Association’s 27th Alabama State Senior Amateur Championship & 6th Alabama State Super-Senior Amateur Championship will be held at Limestone Springs Golf Club in Oneonta, AL from May 17-19, 2024. 78 golfers will compete for the State Senior Championship title and 44 players will compete for the State Super-Senior Championship title.

This marks the second time Limestone Springs Golf Club has hosted the Alabama State Senior Championship and the first time it has hosted the Alabama State Super-Senior Championship. Defending Champion, Shaw Pritchett of Montgomery, returns to compete for this year’s State Senior title. Dana Amberson of Decatur returns to this year’s field to defend his 2023 State-Super Senior title. The inaugural State Senior Champion, Sam Farlow of Birmingham, holds the record of most wins with 6 victories (1998, 2000-2004).

State Senior Amateur Championship entries are open to any male amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama, has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 9.9 and has reached his 50th birthday by May 17, 2024.

State Super-Senior Amateur Championship entries are open to any male amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama, has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 12.9 and has reached his 65th birthday by May 17, 2024.

Yardage: 6500 yards, par 36-36–72 (State Senior); 5868 yards, par 36-36–72 (State Super-Senior)
Course & Slope Rating: 70.6/133 (State Senior); 68.1/123/140 (State Super-Senior)
 
Championship Format: 
  • 54 holes of gross individual stroke play.
  • The field will be cut to the low 38 and ties (State Senior) & low 22 and ties (State Super-Senior) after 36 holes. 
  • The lowest score for 54 holes will be the Champion. 
  • In the event of a tie for the Championship, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The play-off holes and order of play will be determined by the AGA. All other ties will be split equally. 
  • Initial groupings will be for the first two rounds. Following the cut, the field will be re-paired by score for the final round.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of 120 member clubs represented by over 28,000 individuals. Additionally, the Alabama Golf Foundation supports the Youth on Course Alabama program providing facility access to junior golfers and provides funding for the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation. In 2016, the AGA earned the Gold Tee Award for “Outstanding Tournament Operations – Small Association” by the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA).

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the historic Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the SGA Board of Directors.
