Round Two Results of the 42nd Alabama State Four-Ball Championship

HOOVER, AL (May 3, 2024) – Stroke play round two results of the 42nd Alabama State Four-Ball Championship held at Hoover Country Club in Hoover, AL on Friday, May 3, 2024.

The team of Alex Balog of Elmore + Daniel Burns of Owens Cross Roads posted a round two score of six-under par 66 to claim the solo second round lead. They finished the 36-hole stroke play portion of the tournament at 14-under par 130 to advance to match play as the 1st seed.  

Three teams sit tied at T2, carding a total 13-under par 131:

  • Josh Hollingsworth of Huntsville + Vess Hollingsworth of Jasper
  • Steven Muncher of Birmingham + Taylor Hereford of Birmingham
  • Bob Adams of Homewood + Zachary Hughes of Vestavia Hills


The cut to match play includes 16 teams (no ties) advancing to the Round of 16; today’s round resulted in the following five teams playing off for the final three spots in match play:

  • Clay Guerin of Hoover + James Salter of Auburn
  • Tobin Ayers of Auburn + Wil Clowdus of Auburn
  • Brinson Holder of Point Clear + Matt Gourgeot of Decatur
  • Freeman Fite of Anniston + Jackson King of Hoover
  • Hudson Jeter of Athens + Matthew Walker of Toney


The cut line fell at 10-under 134.

The five teams will return for a playoff for the 14th, 15th and 16th seed tomorrow, May 4, 2024 at 7:00 a.m. off #10. The Round of 16 will begin at 7:30 a.m. off #1. Quarterfinals will follow the Round of 16 in the afternoon.

This Championship is conducted by the Alabama Golf Association.

Additionally, the Alabama Golf Foundation supports the Youth on Course Alabama program providing facility access to junior golfers and provides funding for the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation. In 2016, the AGA earned the Gold Tee Award for “Outstanding Tournament Operations – Small Association” by the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA).

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the historic Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the SGA Board of Directors. AGA staff also administers day-to-day operations of the Elite Amateur Golf Series.
