Shaw Pritchett of Montgomery leads round one of the 26th Alabama State Senior Amateur Championship, firing four-under 68. He holds a one-stroke lead to remain atop the leaderboard.
“I got off to a great start, birdied the first two holes. I hit kind of a low point in the middle of the round, missed a few short putts, then I kind of got jump-started on the back nine. On 13 I hit an unbelievable shot to about 8 feet and made a putt for eagle, then I followed that up with a birdie, and just finished with one more birdie and somehow choked in a couple pars at the end,” said Pritchett.
Pritchett will continue to “just hit the next shot in front of [him]” and compete for the coveted Senior Amateur Championship title tomorrow, hoping to advance to Sunday’s final round.
The following four players stand T2 at two-under 70:
- Claud Cooper of Birmingham
- Kenny Miller of Madison
- Danny Spybey of Spanish Fort
- Chris Cook of Alabaster
Emile Vaughan of Pike Road stands second at one-under 71. Harry Kirkland of Decatur shot even-par 72, finishing the round in third place.
Round two of the 26th Alabama State Senior Amateur Championship and 5th Alabama State Super-Senior Amateur Championship begins Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 7:30 a.m.
