MUSCLE SHOALS, AL (July 7, 2021) – Match Play results of the 89th Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship and 3rd Alabama Women’s State Senior Match Play Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by RTJ Golf Trail at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, AL on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.
The 89th Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship advanced to match play format as the top 16 players battled this morning in the Championship Division. Eight players remained in the afternoon Quarterfinals.
Due to heavy downpours, a four-hour rain delay interrupted play. Because of the delay, afternoon matches in both events’ Championship and Consolation Brackets were 9 holes.

Morning Women’s State Amateur Results
Enduring the weather delay, the No. 1 seed Molly Brown Davidson of Birmingham defeated the No. 16 seed, MK Horton of Birmingham, 3 & 2.
No. 9 seed Lauren Thompson of Midland City defeated No. 8 seed Elisabeth Preus of Auburn 4 & 3.
Ashley-Sinclair Curtis of Enterprise (No. 13 seed) defeated No. 4 seed Linda Jeffery of Prattville, 2 & 1.
The morning Match Play saw an extra hole in the match between Lauren Gilchrist of Spanish Fort and Kylee Lynn of Opelika. Gilchrist defeated Lynn in 19 holes.

Within the Senior Championship Bracket, Theresa Mahlik of Madison defeated Nancy Schlich of Auburn 4 & 3.
Amanda Miller of Albertville defeated Lea Green of McCalla 1 up.
Donna Lowen of Huntsville defeated Mary Ann Jones of Madison 4 & 3.
Kathy Hartwiger of Birmingham defeated Theresa Stratton of Opelika 7 & 5.
Within the Tournament Division, Kyung-Hwa “K” Theodoss of Hampton Cove defeated Laura Johnson of Homewood 5 & 4.
Barbee Bryant of Hoover defeated Keri Rutledge of Birmingham 5 & 4.

Kelsey Carstens of Florence defeated Emma Pittman 2 & 1.
Tomorrow’s Finals will see Davidson play Burks and Trible play Carstens.

These Championships are conducted by the Alabama Golf Association.
