SCOTTSBORO, AL (June 21, 2020) - The Alabama Golf Association will host the 31st Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship, 48th Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship and the 3rd Alabama Women’s State Super-Senior Amateur Championship at Goose Pond Colony Resort in Scottsboro from June 22-24. The par-72, George Cobb course will welcome 34 players to the Women’s Stroke Play field and 26 players to the Women’s State Senior & Super-Senior Amateur Championships.

This will be the first time that Goose Pond Colony Resort (Lake Course) has hosted these Championships. The first Women’s Stroke Play Championship was played in 1990 at Gulf Shores Country Club in Gulf Shores, AL with Virginia Derby winning the inaugural championship.
The inaugural Women’s State Senior Championship was played in 1973 at Montgomery Country Club, with Ceil Watkins winning. Kathy Hartwiger won the title in 2020 at Timberline Golf Club, claiming her first senior title and her 20th overall AGA Championship title. Hartwiger returns to the field to defend her title in this year’s event. Mary Isbell holds the record with eight victories (1995-1999, 2001-2003).
The first Alabama Women’s State Super-Senior Amateur was won by Barbara Brown of Northport, at GlenLakes Golf Club in 2019. Brown claimed the 2020 title, and she will return to this year’s field to defend her title.

Tournament Yardage/ Course & Slope Rating: 5598 yards/67.1/115
Format: Championship is conducted at 54 holes of stroke play. Two Divisions: Championship and Tournament with the overall champion being the lowest score for 54 holes in the Championship Division. Tournament Division will be flighted after 36 holes by score if necessary. In the event of a tie for the Championship, a hole-by-hole playoff will be held immediately following play. Any other ties in all other flights, will be resolved by matching scorecards.

Format: The Championship is conducted at 54 holes of stroke play. There will be two divisions as described in the entry form with the Champion being the player who posts the lowest 54-hole score in the Championship Division. Tournament Division will be flighted after 36 holes by score (if necessary). Initial groupings will be for round one; field will be repaired by score after the first round. In the event of a tie for the Overall Champion only, there will be a hole-by-hole playoff commencing immediately following play (the holes involved to be determined by the AGA). After the Champion has been determined, all other ties not yet settled, including those involving individuals participating in the playoff for the Championship, and ties for Tournament Division winners will be resolved by matching scorecards.

Format: The Championship will be conducted on a stroke play basis for 36 holes, 18 holes daily on June 22-23, 2021. There will be one division as described in the entry form with the Champion being the player who posts the lowest 36-hole score. Initial groupings will be for round one; field will be re-paired by score after the first round. In the event of a tie for the Overall Champion only, there will be a hole-by-hole playoff commencing immediately following play (the holes involved to be determined by the AGA). After the Champion has been determined, all other ties not yet settled, including those involving individuals participating in the playoff for the Championship will be resolved by matching scorecards.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 115 member clubs represented by over 21,000 individuals.
