MONTGOMERY, AL (October 29, 2020) – The Alabama Golf Association’s 23rd Alabama State Senior and 2nd Alabama State Super-Senior Amateur Championships will be held at the Wynlakes Golf & Country Club in Montgomery, AL from October 29 – November 1, 2020. A field of 72 players will compete within the State Senior Division, and there are 27 players competing in the Super-Senior Division.

This year marks the 23rd playing of the Alabama State Senior Championship and the second time that Wynlakes Golf & Country Club has hosted the State Senior Championship (2013-Emile Vaughan). Robert Nelson of Fairhope won the title in 2019 at Riverchase Country Club. The Championship was first played in 1998 with Sam Farlow winning the inaugural event. Farlow of Birmingham holds the record with 6 victories (1998, 2000-2004).
Stewart “Buddy” Alexander of Birmingham, Alabama will defend his State Super-Senior title. This year marks the 2nd playing of the Alabama State Super-Senior Championship. Alexander claimed the inaugural title in 2019 at Riverchase Country Club.
Alabama State Senior Amateur Championship Eligibility: Entries are open to any male amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama, has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 10.4 and has reached his 50th birthday by October 30, 2020.
Alabama State Super-Senior Amateur Championship Eligibility: Entries are open to any male amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama, has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 15.4 and has reached his 65th birthday by October 30, 2020.

Course & Slope Rating: 71.8/135
Championship Format: There will be 54 holes of gross individual stroke play and the field will be cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes. The lowest score for 54 holes will be the Champion. In the event of a tie for the Championship, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The playoff holes and their order of play will be determined by the AGA. All other ties will be split equally. Initial groupings will be for first two rounds; the field will be cut and re-paired by score for the final round.
