MONTGOMERY, AL (September 26, 2020) – Second round results of the 32nd Alabama State Mid-Amateur Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Montgomery Country Club in Montgomery, AL on Saturday, September 26, 2020 (6418 yards, par 35-35—70, 71.7/134).

Four players stand T1 heading into the final round of the 32nd Alabama State Mid-Amateur Championship. Robby Prater of Birmingham, Stewart Whitt of Athens, Austin Sparks of Red Bay and Matt Gourgeot of Decatur are six-under 134 altogether.

Gourgeot posted one-under 69. Prater and Whitt each carded two-under 68 for the second round.

Sparks climbed atop the leaderboard, posting a four-under 66.

“Today, I started off a little slow with a three-putt on No. 2, but I started going on the back with five birdies to shoot 30,” Sparks said. “I really turned it around on the back, for sure.”

Round 2 Notes:

  • 15 players are under par through 36 holes with a field average score of 74.66
  • 65 (-5) was the low score of the day carded by Mark Chambers and Hunter Hawkins
  • 315 birdies and 3 eagles posted in round two
  • Easiest hole: No. 12, 480 yards, par 5, 4.84 scoring average
  • Hardest Hole: No. 16, 451 yards, par 4, 4.54 scoring average

The field advancing to the final round includes 65 players, with the cut line falling at 148 (+8).

The final round begins tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. from both the No. 1 and No. 10 tees.
