BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Round one results of the 31st Alabama State Mid-Amateur Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Pine Tree Country Club in Birmingham, Ala. on Friday, September 27, 2019 (7026 yards, par 36-36—72, 74.2/138).

Josh Upton of Maylene, Alan Coshatt of Birmingham and James Salter of Auburn share the first round lead after carding a three-under 69 at Pine Tree Country Club.
Two-time defending champion Stewart Whitt of Athens posted an opening round of 77 (+5) and is tied for 45th place.
Round 1 Notes:
- 6 players are under par through 18 holes with field average score of 79.5
- 69 (-3) was the low round of the day carded by Josh Upton, Alan Coshatt, James Salter
- 220 birdies and 13 eagles posted in round one
- Easiest hole: No. 6, 493 yard par 5, 4.93 scoring average
- Hardest Hole: No. 14, 409 yard par 4, 4.79 scoring average

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented bovver 19,000 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service. AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education. The AGA annually conducts 20 championships and team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. The AGA also conducts Alabama high school golf championships and assists with many collegiate events including the SEC Men's Golf Championship. In addition to competitions, the AGA administers the AGA Women's Scholarship Fund that is dedicated to assisting young female golfers in higher education and supports the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation.
