Birmingham, AL - Second round results of the 22nd Alabama State Senior Amateur Championship / 1st Alabama State Super Senior Amateur Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Riverchase Country Club in Birmingham, AL on Saturday, May 18, 2019 (Ages 50-64: 6515 yards, par 36-36--72, 71.9/139; Ages 65+ (Super Senior): 6015 yards.

2017 State Senior Amateur champion, Robert Nelson of Fairhope, stretched his lead with a four-under 68 in round two at Riverchase Country Club. His 134 total (-10) leads by five strokes over Richard Jeffers of Mobile.
Defending champion Claud Cooper of Birmingham carded a three-over 75 (148) to stand in a tie for 12th place.
In the Super Senior Championship, Stewart “Buddy” Alexander of Auburn fired a four-under 68 (137) to take a three stroke lead over Ron Aldy of Tuscaloosa. Alexander is known for his stellar coaching career at the University of Florida and winner of the 1986 U.S. Amateur Championship played at Shoal Creek.
After 36 holes, the field in the Championship Division was cut to the low 48 scores and ties for the final round. The cut line fell at 158 (+14) with 49 players advancing to Sunday’s final round. There was no cut in the Super Senior Division.
Alabama State Senior Amateur Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 50th birthday by May 17, 2019, is a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 10.4 (ages 50-64) and 15.4 (age 65+).

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service.
AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education. The AGA annually conducts 12 championships and team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. The AGA also conducts Alabama high school golf championships and assists with many collegiate events including the SEC Men's Golf Championship. In addition to competitions, the AGA administers the AGA Women's Scholarship Fund that is dedicated to assisting young female golfers in higher education and supports the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation.
Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
