Defending champion Stewart Whitt of Athens Opens with 8-under 64
ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. – Round one results of the 30th Alabama State Mid-Amateur Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Willow Point Golf and Country Club in Alexander City, Ala. on Friday, September 28, 2018 (7067 yards, par 36-36—72, 73.4/128).

With an impressive eight-under 64, defending champion Stewart Whitt of Athens is leading the field by one stroke. His round included seven birdies, an eagle versus one bogey on his opening hole.
One shot back is Alan Coshatt of Birmingham. Coshatt carded seven birdies on his way to firing a seven-under 65.
Round 1 Notes:
- 21 players are under par through 18 holes with field average score of 76.53
- 64 (-8) was the low round of the day carded by Stewart Whitt
- 333 birdies and 11 eagles posted in round one
- Easiest hole: No. 18, 520 yard par 5, 4.90 scoring average

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service. AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education. The AGA annually conducts 13 championships and team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. The AGA also conducts Alabama high school golf championships and assists with many collegiate events including the SEC Men's Golf Championship. In addition to competitions, the AGA administers the AGA Women's Scholarship Fund that is dedicated to assisting young female golfers in higher education and supports the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation.
