Hunter Battles of Tuscumbia leads after an eight-under 64
FOLEY, Ala. – Round one results of the 73rd Alabama Boys State Junior Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by GlenLakes Golf Club in Foley, Ala. on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 (6840 yards, Par 36-36 – 72, Rating: 73.2/132).

The 73rd Alabama Boys State Junior Championship began today with 117 players competing at GlenLakes Golf Club. Players faced very hot and humid conditions throughout the day with occasional light rain.
Hunter Battles of Tuscumbia fired a bogey-free eight-under par 64 to take the lead after round one. Battles’ round included eight birdies, five of which were on the front nine. He leads by four shots over Stephen Baker of Fairhope who carded a four-under par 68.
Max Johnson of Fairhope and defending champion Padraic Sim of Spanish Fort both shot two-under par 70’s and are tied for third place. Johnson had nines of 34 and 36 with a total of six birdies. Sim had nines of 33 and 37, including an eagle and two birdies.
Christopher Yeilding of Birmingham is leading the 12-13 age division after a two-over par 74. Yeilding’s round included two birdies and four bogeys.
Leading the 8-11 age division is Jackson Skinner of Birmingham after carding a five-over par 41. This age division plays nine holes each day.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service. AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education. The AGA annually conducts 12 championships and team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. The AGA also conducts Alabama high school golf championships and assists with many collegiate events including the SEC Men's Golf Championship. In addition to competitions, the AGA administers the AGA Women's Scholarship Fund that is dedicated to assisting young female golfers in higher education and supports the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation.
