A second round 66 gives Morard a six shot lead going into the final round
ATHENS, Ala. – Round two results of the 28th Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Canebrake Club in Athens, Ala. on Thursday, June 21, 2018 (6006 yards, Par 36-36—72, Rating: 74.7/134).
The 28th Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship continued today at Canebrake Club. Players were greeted this morning on Summer Solstice with rain early in the round necessitating a suspension of play at 9:00 a.m. due to standing water on putting greens. After a one hour and 10 minute delay, the skies cleared and play resumed at 10:10 a.m.
Round one leader Michaela Morard of Huntsville followed up yesterday’s 63 with a six-under 66 to stand alone at the top of the leaderboard at 129 (-15). Her round included seven birdies and an eagle. She leads by six shots heading into the final round.
Mychael O’Berry of Hoover is in solo second after firing a five-under 67 for a 135 total (-9). O’Berry started her round with a hole-out eagle on the 348-yard par four first hole and made four other birdies versus two bogeys. Morard and O’Berry will be joined in tomorrow’s final group by Virginia Green of Point Clear who eagled her last hole to post a three-under par 69 for a 141 total (-3).
Defending champion Cammie Bentley of Northport carded a one-under 71 and is in the red numbers in seventh place at 143 (-1).
The final round will begin tomorrow at 7:30a.m.
