Matt Lorenz's Back Nine 32 Vaults Him Into a Four Shot Lead

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (June 10, 2018) – Round three results of the 102nd Alabama State Amateur Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Pine Tree Country Club in Birmingham, Ala. on Saturday, June 9, 2018 (7026 yards, par 36-36—72, 74.2/138).
Taking a one shot lead into the third round, Matt Lorenz of Fairhope fired a five-under 67 to extend his lead to four strokes heading into tomorrow’s final round. Making the turn at one-under for his round, Lorenz made birdies on holes 10, 13, 15 and 18 for an inward four-under 32. Lorenz stands at 203 (-13).
Defending champion Taylor Eyster of Birmingham carded a two-under 70 to find himself alone in second place at 207 (-9).
Steven Setterstrom Jr. of Mobile and Jason Tate of Owens Cross Roads are tied for third at 208 (-8).
Round 3 Notes:
- 18 players are under par through 54 holes with field average score of 74.4
- 67 (-5) was the low round of the day carded by Matt Lorenz and Woodie Eubanks of Oneonta
- 193 birdies and 9 eagles posted in round three
- Easiest hole: No. 6, 493 yard par 5, 4.69 scoring average
- Hardest Hole: No. 4, 427 yard par 4, 4.52 scoring average

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service. AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education. The AGA annually conducts 12 championships and team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. The AGA also conducts Alabama high school golf championships and assists with many collegiate events including the SEC Men's Golf Championship. In addition to competitions, the AGA administers the AGA Women's Scholarship Fund that is dedicated to assisting young female golfers in higher education and supports the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation.
