BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Round two results of the 102nd Alabama State Amateur Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Pine Tree Country Club in Birmingham, Ala. on Friday, June 8, 2018 (7026 yards, par 36-36—72, 74.2/138).
The 102nd Alabama State Amateur Championship continued today at Pine Tree Country Club in Birmingham. Players competed in hot and humid conditions with light wind.
With a second-round score of one-under 71, Matt Lorenz of Fairhope remains atop the leaderboard. With four birdies and three bogeys in his round, Lorenz leads by one stroke going into the weekend at 136 (-8).
One shot back are defending champion Taylor Eyster of Birmingham and Bessemer’s Victor Kyatt. Eyster carded a solid two-under 70 while Kyatt posted a one-under 71.
The field was cut to the low 60 scores and ties for the final two rounds. The cut line fell at 150 (+6) with 68 players advancing to the final 36 holes.
Round 2 Notes:
- 20 players are under par through 36 holes with the field average score of 75.9 that was .2 shots harder than round one
- 67 (-5) was the low round of the day carded by Jason Tate of Owens Cross Roads
- 392 birdies and 12 eagles made in round two
- Easiest hole: No. 6, 493 yard par 5, 4.7 scoring average
- Hardest Hole: No. 5, 414 yard par 4, 4.53 scoring average
Round three begins tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. from the first and tenth tees.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service. AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education. The AGA annually conducts 13 championships and team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. The AGA also conducts Alabama high school golf championships and assists with many collegiate events including the SEC Men's Golf Championship. In addition to competitions, the AGA administers the AGA Women's Scholarship Fund that is dedicated to assisting young female golfers in higher education and supports the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation.
