Emile Vaughan (L) and Richard Jeffers (R) Fired an 11-under 61 to Lead by Four
BIRMINGHAM, AL (October 13, 2017) - First round results of the 23rd Alabama State Senior Four-Ball Championship hosted by Riverchase Country Club in Birmingham, AL on Friday, October 13, 2017 (Championship Division: 6515 yards, par 36-36—72, 71.9/139; 65+ Division: 5777 yards, par 36-36—72, 68.1/133).
Emile Vaughan of Pike Road and Richard Jeffers of Mobile fired an opening round of 11-under par 61 to hold a three shot lead over Jim Mandle of Alabaster and Dusty Ellison of Wilsonville. Vaughan and Jeffers combined for 11 birdies.
Defending champions Mike Greer of Birmingham and Tom Jungkind of Hoover posted a three-under 69 and tied for 13th place.
In the Super Senior Division, Max Mathews of Andalusia and Cecil Rainey of Greenville carded a four-under 68 to take a four shot lead.
Championship format is 54 holes of four-ball stroke play with no cut. Awards will be presented to the Champions in both the Championship (Ages 50-64) and Super Senior (Ages 65+) divisions. Merchandise prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each division. Championship Division winners will have their name engraved on the Bob Phillips Trophy and may take possession of the trophy for the ensuing year.
Alabama State Senior Four-Ball Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 50th birthday by the first day of the championship, is a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service. AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education. The AGA annually conducts 12 championships and team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. The AGA also conducts Alabama high school golf championships and assists with many collegiate events including the SEC Men's Golf Championship.
