Decatur, AL - Final round results of the 29th Alabama State Mid-Amateur Championship hosted by Burningtree Country Club in Decatur, AL on Sunday, September 24, 2017 (7032 yards, par 35-36—71, 73.2/138).
Stewart Whitt of Athens fired the lowest round of the tournament with a final round 67 to win the 29th Alabama State Mid-Amateur Championship at Burningtree Country Club by four strokes. His 210 (-3) 54-hole total was the only sub-par score for the championship.
Matthew Gourgeot of Decatur finished in second place at 214 while Woodie Eubanks of Oneonta finished in third at 215.
Defending champion Clay Guerin of Hoover carded a final round 70 to finish T5 at 218.
Average score for the final round was 78.5 and 78.6 for the championship. There were only seven sub-par rounds posted for the entire championship.
Championship format was 54 holes of stroke play with no cut this year. Merchandise awards were given to the fifteen lowest scores of the tournament. The champion will have his name engraved on the Elbert S. Jemison Jr. Trophy that is housed at the AGA office and receives a five year exemption into the Alabama Men’s State Amateur Championship and the Alabama State Match Play Championship. Top 10 finishers will receive an exemption into the 2018 Alabama Men’s State Amateur Championship at Pine Tree Country Club in Birmingham and Top 8 finishers will receive an exemption into the 2018 Alabama State Match Play.
Alabama State Mid-Amateur Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 25th birthday by the first day of the championship, is a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 8.4.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service. AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education. The AGA annually conducts 12 championships and team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors.
