BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Alabama Golf Association will conduct the 72nd Alabama Boys State Junior Championship at Goose Pond Colony Resort (Lakes Course) in Scottsboro, AL July 25-27, 2017. This is the first time Goose Pond has hosted the Alabama Boys State Junior Championship.
John Racciatti, Jr. of Fairhope is the defending champion; he won the title in 2016 at Lakewood Golf Club with a score of 11-under par. Racciatti, Jr. is in the field this week to defend his title.
158 players are scheduled to compete in this year’s championship.
Championship Format
54 holes of gross individual stroke play for players age 12-18. 27 holes (9 each day) for players age 9-11. Players in the 14-15 and 16-18 Age Divisions will play the same tees and will be eligible to win the Overall Championship. The field (14-18) will be cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes. There will be no cut for the 9-11 or 12-13 Age Divisions. The lowest score for 54 holes in either 14-15 or 16-18 Age Divisions will be the Champion. In the event of a tie for the Overall Championship only, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The playoff holes and their order of play will be determined by the Committee.
Awards
Awards will be presented to the top scores in the 9-11, 12-13 and 14-18 Divisions, as well as the Overall Champion. In addition, the Overall Champion will have his name engraved on the permanent trophy and may take possession of the trophy for the ensuing year.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
