BIRMINGHAM, AL (June 19, 2017) - The Alabama Golf Association will conduct the 85th Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship at Montgomery Country Club in Montgomery, AL from June 21-23.
This is the sixth time that Montgomery Country Club has hosted the Women’s State Amateur (1939, ‘56, ‘64, ‘79, ‘92).
Last year, Elaine Wood (Spanish Fort, AL) defeated Virginia Green (Fairhope, AL), 3 and 2, at Musgrove Country Club in Jasper. Wood is in the field to defend her title this week.
47 players are scheduled to compete in this year’s championship (34 in the Championship Division, 3 in the Tournament Division and 10 in the Senior Division).
Championship Format
There are three divisions: Championship, Tournament and Senior Division. The Champion will come from the Championship Division only. Championship and tournament division players losing in the first round will fall into a consolation bracket.
18 holes of gross individual stroke play will determine seeding within each division. Championship Division will be cut to low 16 players from the stroke play qualifier that will compete for the overall championship. Remaining Championship Division players will be divided into flights of four (4). Tournament and Senior Division players will be divided into flights of four (4) to compete at match play based on qualifying round score. All players are guaranteed a minimum of two matches due to consolation brackets for each flight.
Awards
Stroke Play Qualifying Rounds: Lowest Scoring Player for 18 Holes in Championship Division: Silver medal; if a tie, duplicate medals will be awarded.
Match Play: Awards will be presented to the Champion, runner-up and semi-finalists in the Championship Flight. All other flights will be awarded flight winner and consolation winner. All flights will be awarded a consolation winner.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama.
