Brewton, AL – Round of 32, Round of 16 and Quarterfinal match play results of the 16th Alabama State Match Play Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Country Club of Brewton in Brewton, AL on Friday, August 5, 2016 (6949 yards, par 36-36—72, 73.3/130).
The Round of 32 matches resumed play at 8am this morning after play was suspended late Thursday evening due to darkness. Round of 16 and Quarterfinals matches were also completed with 4 players advancing to the Semifinal Round on Saturday morning.
Number 1 seed Matt Johnson of Dothan will play number 5 seed Bo Hayes of Southside at 7:30am and number 15 Taylor Jones of Birmingham will square off against number 6 seed Steven Groover of Birmingham at 7:45am. The winners will play the Final Match in the afternoon.
Johnson advanced to the semifinals by defeating John Hayden of Birmingham 5&4 in the Round of 16 and Vic Kyatt of Birmingham 3&1 in the Quarterfinals.
Hayes earned his spot in tomorrow’s match by defeating Wesley Hunter of Mobile 3&2 in the Round of 16 and Conner Elder of Mobile 2&1 in the Quarterfinals.
Groover defeated Jordan Maynor of Andalusia 4&3 in the Round of 16 and Country Club of Brewton member Tripp Owens 2up in the Quarterfinals.
Jones beat number 2 seed Steve Hudson of Birmingham 3&2 in the Round of 16 and Cam Norman of Greenville 1up in the Quarterfinals.
Alabama State Match Play Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 8.4.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service.
