Country Club of Brewton
BIRMINGHAM, AL – For the first time in the event’s history, Country Club of Brewton will be hosting the Alabama Golf Association’s Men’s State Match Play Championship from August 4-6, 2016. Championship format features single elimination match play with two matches scheduled per day beginning Thursday, August 4, 2016 and concluding on Saturday, August 6, 2016. The starting field is limited to 64 players with match play seeding determined by Alabama Men’s Amateur Rankings and if necessary, by USGA Handicap Index.
Players advancing to the Round of 16 will receive an exemption into the 2017 Alabama Men’s State Amateur Championship at Bent Brook Golf Club in Bessemer. The Champion will receive a 10-year exemption into the Alabama Men’s State Amateur Championship.

Prizes
Awards will be presented to all players who advance into the Semifinal round. In addition, the Champion will have their name engraved on the permanent trophy housed at the AGA office.

History of the Event
The Championship was first played in 2001 with Will Swift winning the inaugural event at Limestone Springs. Patton Kizzire holds the record with 2 victories (2003, 2006). Patrick Martin of Birmingham won last year’s championship at Montgomery Country Club defeating Lee Hodges of Athens, 1 up. Martin will not defend his title this year.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals.
