Connor Doyal of Homewood Holds 36 Hole Lead at 138 (-6)
POINT CLEAR, AL - Second round results of the 71st Alabama Boys State Junior Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by The Lakewood Club (Dogwood) in Point Clear, AL on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 (16-18 & 14-15 Age Divisions: 6626 yards, par 36-36—72, 71.8/125; 12-13 Age Division: 5952 yards, par 36-36—72, 68.6/118; 9-11 Age Division (9 Holes) 2583 yards, par 36).
Connor Doyal of Homewood fired a six-under 66 to take a one shot lead at 138 (-6) through 36 holes at The Lakewood Club’s Dogwood course. John Catanzaro of Gadsden and Will McFadden of Mobile are tied for second place at 139 (-5). McFadden carded the low tournament round today with seven-under 65.
First round leader Connor Newton of Auburn posted a 73 (+1) and is tied for fourth at 140 (-4) with Blake Schambeau of Hoover and John Racciatti Jr. of Fairhope.
Play was suspended for 45 minutes from 5:02pm-5:47pm due to a heavy rain storm that blew in from Mobile Bay.
The 16-18 and 14-15 age divisions field was cut for the final round. The 16-18 cut line fell at 154 (+10) while the 14-15 cut was 160 (+16). A total of 67 players made the cut plus the 9-11 and 12-13 age divisions that did not have a cut.
Final round begins at 7:30am at The Lakewood Club off #1 and #10 tees.

There are four age divisions in the Boys State Junior: 14-15 & 16-18 (championship tees), 12-13 & 9-11 (shorter tees). The overall champion is the player who posts the lowest 54-hole score from either the 14-15 or 16-18 Age Divisions. Individual age division champions will be those players who post the lowest 54-hole total within their age division. All age divisions will play 18 holes daily, with the exception of the 9-11 that will play 9 holes daily. Overall Champion will have his name engraved on the Art Gleason Jr. Memorial Trophy.
Alabama Boys State Junior Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who is between 9 to 18-years-old not yet in college, a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.
