The Lakewood Club's Dogwood Course
BIRMINGHAM, AL – For the second time in the event’s history, The Lakewood Club will be hosting the Alabama Golf Association’s Boys State Junior Championship from July 26-28, 2016. The Championship will be played on the Dogwood course. Championship format is for 54 holes of stroke play for ages 12-18 and 27 holes for the 9-11 age division. There will be 125 players at the Championship site to begin play, with a cut to the low 66 scores and ties for the 14-15 and 16-18 age divisions following 36 holes of play. There is no cut for the 9-11 and 12-13 age divisions. This is the first year that the Boys State Junior is open to players that are nine-years-old.

Prizes
Awards will be presented to the low scorer posting 27 hole totals in the 9-11 Age Division, the low 3 scorers posting 54 hole totals in the 12-13 Age Division, and the low 4 scorers posting 54 hole totals in both the 14-15 Age Division and the 16-18 Age Division, as well as to the Overall Champion. The Overall Champion can come from either the 14-15 or 16-18 age divisions.

History of the Event
This year marks the 71st playing of the Alabama Boys State Junior Championship and the second time that The Lakewood Club has hosted the Boys State Junior Championship (2009 – Bobby Wyatt). William Buhl of Fairhope won last year’s championship with a 208 score, defeating Alex Green of Point Clear and Jake DeZoort of Tuscaloosa by four strokes. The Championship was first played in 1946 with Walter Wood winning the inaugural event. Bobby Wyatt of Mobile holds the record with four victories (2007-2010).
