CULLMAN, AL – Round one results of the 26th Alabama Women’s Amateur Stroke Play Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by TP Country Club in Cullman, AL on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 (Championship Division=5982 yards, par 36-36—72, 75.8/134; Tournament Division=4871 yards, par 36-36—72, 70.1/122).
A current and a future University of Alabama team member share the first round lead at the 26th Alabama Women’s Amateur Stroke Play Championship. Cammie Gray of Northport and Michaela Morard of Huntsville each posted an opening round even par 72 to hold a one shot lead. Gray is a first year graduate student at Alabama while Morard has verbally committed to the Crimson Tide for the class of 2020.
One shot back at 73 are the William’s sisters, Micheala and Ally, from Athens.
Defending champion Elaine Wood of Spanish Fort carded a 79 and is tied for eighth place.
In the Tournament Division, Tami Green of Fairhope shot an 82 to hold a one shot lead. The Tournament Division plays a shorter course and will be flighted by score after 36 holes for the final round.
Alabama Women’s Amateur Stroke Play Championship is open to any female amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 36.0.
