MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL – Third round results of the 100th Alabama Men’s State Amateur Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by The Country Club of Birmingham (West) in Mountain Brook, AL on Saturday, June 11, 2016 (7075 yards, par 35-36—71, 74.3/138).
Patrick Martin of Birmingham and Turk Pettit of Auburn share a one shot lead heading into the final round at six-under 207. Martin, a rising sophomore at Vanderbilt, carded a five-under 66 with a stretch of five straight birdies on holes 10-14 in his round. Pettit, a rising high school senior at Lee-Scott Academy, posted a three-under 68 that included six birdies versus three bogeys.
Two-time defending champion Will Cannon of Birmingham carded a two-over 73 to fall into a tie for sixth place.
Eight players are under par through 54 holes round with an average score of 75.7.
Alabama State Amateur Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 8.4.
