HOOVER, AL (May 16, 2023) – Alabama Golf Association (AGA) recently announced its 2023 AGA Scholarship recipients, awarding two graduating seniors with $20,000 each toward their higher education goals.
Anne Reaves Skinner and Quincy Leonard, incoming first-year students at Samford University and Florida A&M University, are this year's AGA Scholarship recipients. Each candidate is selected based on academic merit, community involvement and a demonstrated interest in golf.
"It really means a lot when I’m going to college this year knowing that I have people supporting me and I just really appreciate the scholarship," said Leonard when asked about the impact of the scholarship.
Leonard, the first male recipient of the AGA College Scholarship, will be attending Florida A&M University to study computer science.
He will also continue his golf career on the Florida A&M men’s golf team, in hopes to one day become a professional golfer.
Effective in 2022, the AGA Women’s Scholarship, now called the AGA College Scholarship, is open to both male and female applicants. Started in 1993 by the Women’s Alabama Golf Association (WAGA), and later transitioned to oversight by the Alabama Golf Association with the merger in 2010, the program has provided over $410,000 in scholarships to young golfers. Since 1993, the program has supported 28 students across Alabama in their pursuit of post-secondary degrees.
"This scholarship means to me that AGA believes in me and invests in me. I hope to invest back in the future,” said Anne Reaves Skinner when asked what receiving the 2023 AGA College Scholarship meant to her.
Skinner will be attending Samford University in the fall where she will study sports marketing and analytics, one of Samford’s top programs. Skinner will also be a member of the Women’s Golf team where she will be competing at the Division I level in the Southern Conference.
The purpose of the AGA College Scholarship fund is to provide financial assistance to young golfers to support their successes in higher education. Selected students will receive $2,500 per semester for eight consecutive semesters toward their academic aspirations.
The program is funded through golf tournaments, fundraisers, and individual and club donations. Visit the
