Scot Schroder of Hartselle Takes Round One Lead

HOOVER, AL - First round results of the 20th Alabama State Senior Amateur Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Hoover Country Club in Hoover, AL on Friday, May 19, 2017 (Ages 50-64: 6563 yards, par 36-36—72, 71.4/132; Ages 65+ (Super Senior): 5764 yards, par 36-36—72, 67.8/126).
Scot Schroder of Hartselle fired a five-under 67 to take a one shot lead over David Head of Sterrett after the first round at Hoover Country Club.
Defending champion Bryan Askew of Decatur carded a two-over 74 to stand in a tie for 15th place.
In the 65+ Super Senior division, John Gibbs of Oneonta posted a four-under 68 to hold a two shot lead over Wayne Gardner of Mobile.
Two holes-in-one was recorded with Wayne Gardner acing the 142-yard 5th hole and David Head from 168-yards on the 12th hole.
After 36 holes, the field of will be cut to the low 48 scores and ties in the Overall Championship Division (Ages 50-64) and the low 12 scores and ties in the 65+ (Super Senior Division) for the final round.
Alabama State Senior Amateur Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 50th birthday by May 19, 2017, is a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 10.4 (ages 50-64) and 15.4 (age 65+).

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service. AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education. The AGA annually conducts 12 championships and team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. The AGA also conducts Alabama high school golf championships and assists with many collegiate events including the SEC Men's Golf Championship. In addition to competitions, the AGA administers the AGA Women's Scholarship Fund that is dedicated to assisting young female golfers in higher education and supports the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation.
